Anaheim – Chromium-based browser by Microsoft

Microsoft drops the concept of EdgeHTML and instead creates a new browser based on Chromium

Microsoft Edge did not gain much great success since its release on Windows 10 in 2015. The Microsoft Edge browser, based on its rendering core EdgeHTML, was designed as a fast, small, and secure browser. From the beginning, however, it contained many errors and was unstable. Because of this, many users have rejected it.

Because of this, Microsoft drops the concept of EdgeHTML and instead creates a new browser based on Chromium, which uses a similar rendering engine like Google Chrome, Blink.

Codenamed “Anaheim”, this new browser will replace Edge as the default browser on the Windows 10 platform. It is not yet known if Anaheim will be called “Edge” after its release, or if the UI between Edge and Anaheim will be different.

In addition, it was found that Microsoft engineers have recently committed code in the Chromium project to help migrate Google Chrome to ARM. Perhaps some of these works will be carried out to create Anaheim for ARM. We expect that Microsoft will introduce Anaheim during the development of the 19H1 update that is currently being tested.

So far, not much is known about Anaheim, but it is believed that we will learn more in the upcoming weeks.
